De Les Paul Junior en Special werden in 1958 herzien en uitgevoerd met dubbele cutaways en een betere bereikbaarheid van de hogere posities op de toets, maar de Special werd pas echt een succes in 1960. De pickups werden lager op de body geplaatst, en de slankere hals maakte de gitaar gemakkelijker te bespelen dan ooit tevoren.

The Les Paul Junior and Special were revised in 1958 with double cutaways and better access to the higher fretboard positions, but the Special really took off in 1960. The pickups were moved lower on the body, and the slimmer neck made the guitar easier to play than ever before.
