De Southern Jumbo werd in 1942 geïntroduceerd als een luxere uitvoering van de populaire maar eenvoudig uitgevoerde J45. Het model vond zijn plek naast de J45 en J50 in het assortiment van Gibson, en vergaarde zijn roem in de gitaarwereld voornamelijk dankzij van Hank Williams Sr. De Southern Jumbo was voorzien van Gibson's eersteklas houtsoorten, een vijflaags binding en gespleten parallellogram inleg op de gebonden toets die in 1947 voor het eerste werd gebruikt op de Southern Jumbo die zich hierdoor nog meer onderscheidde van de J45.
Het typische Gibson droge houtachtige klankkarakter is natuurlijk onmiskenbaar en alleen te vinden in oude Gibson gitaren. Warm en zacht als hij licht wordt bespeeld, maar kan ook veel punch en projectie leveren bij een stevige slag. Perfect voor alle soorten flatpicking en ritmegitaarspel!
We zijn niet alleen erg onder de indruk van het geluid, maar ook van hoe opvallend mooi deze Southern Jumbo uit de jaren '40 er nog steeds uitziet! De body en het bovenblad vertonen, naast de gebruikelijke slijtage en deukjes, een prachtige craquelé in de originele lak. Het bovenblad heeft daarbij ook een gerepareerde crack. Hij ziet er uitzonderlijk schoon uit voor zijn leeftijd en verkeert daarom ook nog steeds in excellente conditie.
Deze Southern Jumbo speelt heerlijk en heeft een prachtig doorleefd geluid dat velen zal boeien!

The Southern Jumbo was introduced in 1942 as a more luxurious version of the popular but basic J45. The model found its place alongside the J45 and J50 in Gibson's range, and gained its fame in the guitar world mainly thanks to Hank Williams Sr. The Southern Jumbo featured Gibson's premium woods, a 5-ply binding and split parallelogram inlays on the bound fretboard that was first used on the Southern Jumbo in 1947, which distinguished itself even more from the J45 as a result.
The typical Gibson dry woody sound character is of course unmistakable and only found in old Gibson guitars. Warm and mellow when played lightly, but can also deliver plenty of punch and projection when struck firmly. Perfect for all kinds of flatpicking and rhythm guitar playing!
We are very impressed not only with the sound, but also with how strikingly beautiful this 1940s Southern Jumbo still looks! Apart from the usual wear and dents, the body and top show a beautiful crackle in the original lacquer. In addition, the top also has a repaired crack. It looks exceptionally clean for its age and is therefore still in excellent condition.
This Southern Jumbo plays wonderfully and has a beautiful aged sound that will captivate many!

Die Southern Jumbo wurde 1942 als eine luxuriösere Version der beliebten, aber einfachen J45 eingeführt. Das Modell fand seinen Platz neben der J45 und J50 im Gibson-Sortiment und erlangte seinen Ruhm in der Gitarrenwelt vor allem durch Hank Williams Sr. Die Southern Jumbo verfügte über Gibsons Premium-Hölzer, ein 5-lagiges Binding und geteilte Parallelogramm-Inlays auf dem gebundenen Griffbrett, die erstmals 1947 bei der Southern Jumbo verwendet wurden und sich dadurch noch stärker von der J45 unterschieden.
Der typische trockene, holzige Gibson-Klangcharakter ist natürlich unverkennbar und nur bei alten Gibson-Gitarren zu finden. Warm und weich, wenn sie leicht gespielt wird, aber auch mit viel Punch und Projektion, wenn sie fest angeschlagen wird. Perfekt für alle Arten von Flatpicking und Rhythmusgitarrespiel!
Wir sind nicht nur vom Klang beeindruckt, sondern auch davon, wie auffallend schön diese Southern Jumbo aus den 1940er Jahren noch aussieht! Abgesehen von den üblichen Abnutzungserscheinungen und Dellen weisen Korpus und Decke ein schönes Crackle im Originallack auf. Darüber hinaus hat die Decke einen reparierten Riss. Sie sieht für ihr Alter außergewöhnlich sauber aus und ist daher noch in einem hervorragenden Zustand.
Diese Southern Jumbo spielt wunderbar und hat einen schönen gealterten Klang, der viele begeistern wird!
