Wat de Dove werkelijk onderscheidt van de Hummingbird is zijn langere mensuur en het gebruik van esdoorn in plaats van mahonie voor de zij- en achterkant. Deze Dove is uitgerust met gevlamd esdoorn dat samen met het Sitka sparren bovenblad zorgt voor een heldere, krachtige klank met uitstekende projectie. De combinatie van de dreadnought body met deze samenstelling van houtsoorten maakt deze gitaar perfect voor zowel krachtig ritmisch spel als gedetailleerde fingerstyle passages.

De relatief smalle mahonie hals met zijn comfortabele C-profiel nodigt uit tot urenlang spelen, terwijl de toegevoegde Schaller Oyster piezo-pickup de mogelijkheid biedt om deze vintage schoonheid ook versterkt te laten klinken zonder concessies te doen aan de natuurlijke toon.
Deze Dove is afkomstig uit 1968, en is te herkennen aan zijn geschroefde slagplaat die alleen in dat jaar voorkwam. Op het brugzadel en de brugpinnen na is de gitaar volledig origineel, met daarbij ook een ingezet stukje tortoise in de slagplaat. Ook de brug is gerepareerd door middel van een ingezet stukje palissander. Verder vallen de gerepareerde cracks in het bovenblad op, die door middel van cleats gestabiliseerd zijn. De craquelé is daarbij een stille getuige van de leeftijd, terwijl de speelsporen en dings verraden dat de gitaar ruim voldoende ingespeeld is!

What truly sets the Dove apart from the Hummingbird is its longer scale length and the use of maple instead of mahogany for the back and sides. This particular Dove features flamed maple paired with a Sitka spruce top, delivering a bright, powerful tone with excellent projection. The combination of the dreadnought body and these tonewoods makes it ideal for both bold rhythm playing and articulate fingerstyle work.
Gibson’s craftsmanship is evident in every detail, from the cream binding and ornately decorated tortoise pickguard to the beautiful mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays on the rosewood fingerboard. The relatively slim mahogany neck with a comfortable C-shape profile invites hours of playing, while the added Schaller Oyster piezo pickup allows this vintage gem to be amplified without compromising its natural acoustic voice.
This Dove is from 1968, and can be recognized by its screwed pickguard that only existed in that year. Apart from the bridge saddle and the bridge pins, the guitar is completely original, including an inset piece of tortoise in the pickguard. The bridge has also been repaired by means of an inset piece of rosewood. Furthermore, the repaired cracks in the top are noticeable, which have been stabilized by means of cleats. The craquelé is a silent witness to the age, while the playwear and dings reveal that the guitar has been played in more than enough!

Was die Dove wirklich von der Hummingbird unterscheidet, ist ihre längere Mensur und die Verwendung von Ahorn anstelle von Mahagoni für Boden und Zargen. Diese besondere Dove besticht durch geflammten Ahorn in Kombination mit einer Sitka-Fichtendecke und liefert einen hellen, kraftvollen Klang mit hervorragender Projektion. Die Kombination aus Dreadnought-Korpus und diesen Tonhölzern macht sie ideal für kraftvolles Rhythmusspiel und präzises Fingerstyle-Spiel.
Gibsons Handwerkskunst zeigt sich in jedem Detail, vom cremefarbenen Binding und dem kunstvoll verzierten Schildpatt-Schlagbrett bis hin zu den wunderschönen Perlmutt-Parallelogramm-Einlagen auf dem Palisandergriffbrett. Der relativ schlanke Mahagonihals mit seinem komfortablen C-Profil lädt zu stundenlangem Spielen ein, während der Schaller Oyster Piezo-Tonabnehmer dieses Vintage-Juwel verstärkt, ohne seinen natürlichen Klang zu beeinträchtigen.
Diese Dove stammt aus dem Jahr 1968 und ist an ihrem verschraubten Schlagbrett zu erkennen, das es nur in diesem Jahr gab. Abgesehen vom Stegsattel und den Stegstiften ist die Gitarre komplett original, einschließlich eines eingelegten Schildpattstücks im Schlagbrett. Der Steg wurde ebenfalls mit einem eingelegten Palisanderstück repariert. Außerdem sind die reparierten Risse in der Decke erkennbar, die mit Klammern stabilisiert wurden. Das Craquelé ist ein stummer Zeuge des Alters, während die Spielspuren und Dellen zeigen, dass die Gitarre reichlich eingespielt wurde!
