De D35S is een 12-fret dreadnought en een zeldzaamheid op de markt doordat hij uit een tijdperk komt waarin er voornamelijk 14-fret dreadnoughts werden verkocht. Tot en met 1969 werd het model uitgerust met Braziliaans palissander, maar daarna stapte Martin over naar Indisch palissander. Ook dit exemplaar uit 1971 is voorzien van deze houtsoort, en zoals altijd is ook deze 35-serie Martin een spectaculaire gitaar!
Deze slope shoulder dreadnought met gesleufde kop is een heel andere gitaar dan de standaard D35. De "S" in de modelnaam geeft aan dat hij de 12-frets tot de klankkast configuratie heeft, wat de norm was op de eerste (pre-1934) Martin-dreadnoughts. De driedelige achterkant geeft de gitaar een beetje meer compressie en een flinke basrespons in vergelijking met andere dreadnoughts. Daarnaast onderscheidt deze D35S zich door de 12 fret constructie waardoor de brug iets meer naar achter kan worden geplaatst, wat op zijn beurt het volume weer ten goede komt. Ondanks de 12 fret hals heeft hij geen kortere mensuur, maar de gebruikelijke lengte van 25.4".
Deze Martin D35S uit 1971 verkeert in excellente conditie gezien zijn gevorderde leeftijd, maar ontkomt naast de te verwachten speelsporen en dings uiteraard niet aan de sporen van de tijd zoals craquelé in de lak. Deze zijn op het bovenblad te vinden, en in het bijzonder achter de brug op de center seam. Verder zijn de stemmechanieken vervangen, is de brugplaat gerepareerd, en is er een refret uitgevoerd. De gitaar speelt en klinkt heerlijk, en wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in de originele Martin-koffer.
The D35S is a 12-fret dreadnought and a rarity on the market due to its origins in an era when 14-fret dreadnoughts were the most popular. Up until 1969, the model was equipped with Brazilian rosewood, but after that Martin switched to Indian rosewood. This 1971 model also features this wood, and as always, this 35 series Martin is a spectacular guitar!
This slope shoulder dreadnought with slotted headstock is a very different guitar than the standard D35. The "S" in the model name indicates that it has the 12-fret to the body configuration, which was the norm on early (pre-1934) Martin dreadnoughts. The three-piece back gives the guitar a bit more compression and a big bass response compared to other dreadnoughts. In addition, this D35S distinguishes itself by the 12 fret construction, which allows the bridge to be placed a little further back, which in turn benefits the volume. Despite the 12 fret neck, it does not have a shorter scale length, but the usual length of 25.4".
This Martin D35S from 1971 is in excellent condition considering its advanced age, but in addition to the expected playwear and dings, it cannot escape the traces of time such as crackle in the lacquer. These can be found on the top, and in particular behind the bridge on the center seam. Furthermore, the tuning machines have been replaced, the bridge plate has been repaired, and a refret has been performed. The guitar plays and sounds wonderful, and comes with a TFOA passport in the original Martin hardshell case.

Bis 1969 war das Modell mit brasilianischem Palisander ausgestattet, danach wechselte Martin jedoch zu indischem Palisander. Dieses Modell von 1971 verfügt ebenfalls über dieses Holz, und wie immer ist diese Martin der 35er-Serie eine spektakuläre Gitarre!
Diese Dreadnought mit abgeschrägten Schultern und geschlitzter Kopfplatte ist eine ganz andere Gitarre als die Standard-D35. Das „S“ im Modellnamen weist darauf hin, dass sie die 12-Bund-Konfiguration bis zum Korpus hat, die bei frühen (vor 1934) Martin-Dreadnoughts die Norm war. Die dreiteilige Rückseite verleiht der Gitarre im Vergleich zu anderen Dreadnoughts etwas mehr Kompression und eine große Bassreaktion. Darüber hinaus zeichnet sich diese D35S durch die 12-Bund-Konstruktion aus, die es ermöglicht, den Steg etwas weiter hinten zu platzieren, was wiederum der Lautstärke zugutekommt. Trotz des 12-Bund-Halses weist sie keine kürzere Mensur auf, sondern die übliche Länge von 25,4".
Diese Martin D35S aus dem Jahr 1971 ist für ihr hohes Alter in ausgezeichnetem Zustand, kann sich aber neben den zu erwartenden Spielspuren und Beulen auch den Spuren der Zeit wie Knistern im Lack nicht entziehen. Diese befinden sich auf der Oberseite und insbesondere hinter dem Steg an der Mittelnaht. Darüber hinaus wurden die Mechaniken ausgetauscht, die Brückenplatte repariert und ein Refret durchgeführt. Die Gitarre spielt und klingt großartig und wird mit TFOA-Pass im Original-Martin-Koffer geliefert.
