Van der Gaag 'Waikato' OM Blackwood 2009

Johan van der Gaag, oorspronkelijk uit Nederland, begon zijn carrière als gitaarbouwer in 2002 na zijn terugkeer naar Holland. Hij raakte verliefd op het bouwen van gitaren en specialiseerde zich in het maken van instrumenten met inheemse Nieuw-Zeelandse houtsoorten. Dit specifieke OM-model, met geschaafde X-bracing en een natuurlijke glanzende afwerking, laat zijn mix van traditioneel vakmanschap zien met lokale houtsoorten zoals Tasmanisch Blackwood, dat bekend staat om zijn uitgebalanceerde toonkwaliteiten en opvallende visuele uitstraling.

Hoewel de gitaar structureel solide is, bevindt zich een stukje Blackwood in de taille, waarschijnlijk tijdens het bouwproces toegevoegd om een kleine fout te bedekken. Dit beïnvloedt de structurele integriteit of bespeelbaarheid niet. Uitgerust met Gotoh 510 Gold stemmechanieken, een ebbenhouten toets en brug, en een massieve mahoniehouten hals, zorgt het voor stabiele stemming en een soepele speelervaring.

Johan van der Gaag, originally from the Netherlands, began his lutherie journey in 2002 after moving back to Holland. He fell in love with guitar building and specialized in crafting instruments using native New Zealand woods. This particular OM model, featuring scalloped X-bracing and a natural gloss finish, showcases his blend of traditional craftsmanship with local timbers like Tasmanian Blackwood, known for its balanced tonal qualities and striking visual appeal.


While the guitar is structurally sound, there is a patch of Blackwood in its waist, likely added during the building process to cover a minor error. This doesn’t affect its structural integrity or playability. Equipped with Gotoh 510 Gold tuning machines, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a solid mahogany neck, it ensures stable tuning and a smooth playing experience.
