Georde Lowden begon in 1974 met het bouwen van gitaren in zijn allereerste werkplaats in Bangor, Noord Ierland. Vanaf 1980 verhuisde de productie echter voor enkele jaren naar Japan, waar Sadao Yairi de leiding had over de werkplaats in Nagoya. Er werden jaarlijks zo'n 1000 gitaren gebouwd onder licentie van George Lowden, en het Japanse avontuur van Lowden duurde zo'n vijf jaar. Dit was een grote stap in de productie van Lowden, want tot dan toe werden er zo'n 143 gitaren gebouwd in de eerste periode in Noord-Ierland.
Deze Lowden S22 is afkomstig uit 1985 en is opgebouwd uit een mahonie klankkast met ceder bovenblad. Opvallend is de grote bodyvorm die tegenwoordig het O-model is, beduidend anders dan de huidige S die tegenwoordig een van de kleinste Lowden-modellen is. De vijfdelige hals is gemaakt van esdoorn en mahonie, en beschikt over een C-profiel dat licht naar een soft-V-profiel.
De gitaar in zijn bijna 40-jarige bestaan duidelijk met zorg behandeld. De gitaar heeft lichte speelsporen en enkele dings op het bovenblad, de body en de hals, maar de gitaar ziet er gezien zijn vintage status heel netjes uit! Dankzij de geïnstalleerde LR Baggs Anthem SL pickup kan deze Lowden ook versterkt prima uit de voeten. Met een warme en volle sound boordevol sustain is deze Lowden een prachtig klinkende gitaar!
Georde Lowden started building guitars in 1974 in his very first workshop in Bangor, Northern Ireland. From 1980, however, production moved to Japan for several years, where Sadao Yairi was in charge of the workshop in Nagoya. Some 1,000 guitars were built annually under George Lowden's licence, and Lowden's Japanese adventure lasted some five years. This was a big step in Lowden's production, as some 143 guitars had been built in the first period in Northern Ireland up to then.
This Lowden S22 is from 1985 and is constructed from a mahogany soundboard with cedar top. Notable is the large body shape which is the O model today, significantly different from the current S which is one of the smallest Lowden models today. The five-piece neck is made of maple and mahogany, and features a C profile that lightens to a soft-V profile.
The guitar in its almost 40-year existence has clearly been treated with care. The guitar has light playing marks and some dings on the top, body and neck, but the guitar looks very neat considering its vintage status! Thanks to the installed LR Baggs Anthem SL pickup, this Lowden can also do very well amplified. With a warm and full sound brimming with sustain, this Lowden is a beautiful sounding guitar!

Auffallend ist die große Korpusform, die heute das O-Modell ist, das sich deutlich von der aktuellen S unterscheidet, die heute eines der kleinsten Lowden-Modelle ist. Der fünfteilige Hals besteht aus Ahorn und Mahagoni und weist ein C-Profil auf, das sich zu einem weichen V-Profil aufhellt.
Die Gitarre wurde in ihrer fast 40-jährigen Existenz eindeutig mit Sorgfalt behandelt. Die Gitarre hat leichte Spielspuren und einige Dellen auf der Decke, dem Korpus und dem Hals, aber die Gitarre sieht in Anbetracht ihres Vintage-Status sehr gepflegt aus! Dank des eingebauten LR Baggs Anthem SL Tonabnehmers, kann diese Lowden auch sehr gut verstärkt werden. Mit einem warmen und vollen Klang voller Sustain, ist diese Lowden eine schön klingende Gitarre!
