Martin D18VS Sitka Spruce Mahogany 2010

De eerste 14 fret Dreadnoughts van Martin verschenen in 1934, maar tot die tijd maakten de 12 fret-modellen de dienst uit. De vraag om meer bereik van de hogere frets zorgde voor de verandering van bouwstijlen, maar deze verandering had ook gevolgen voor het tonale karakter van de gitaren.

Met zijn behoorlijk grote body brengt de D18VS een warme en basrijke klank voort. De mahonie hals heeft een duidelijke V-vorm, en is met zijn wijde snaarbreedte een gitaar die meer dan genoeg ruimte biedt voor de vingers, en daarom natuurlijk bijzonder comfortabel te bespelen is voor de fingerstyle-gitarist. De gitaar verder voorzien van een tortoise binding en slagplaat, en heeft een slotted headstock met palissander kopplaat en Waverly stemmechanieken.

Deze D18VS werd gebouwd in 2010, en verkeert in excellente conditie. De gitaar vertoont speelsporen op de slagplaat, het bovenblad en de achterzijde van de body. Tevens lopen er vanaf de treblezijde van de hals enkele zeer lichte lijntjes craquelé, en zijn er langs de binding aan de treblezijde van de zijkant van de body twee kleine dings te vinden. Tenslotte is het brugzadel vervangen door een exemplaar van elandbeen. 

De gitaar wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in de originele koffer van TKL.

Martin's first 14 fret Dreadnoughts appeared in 1934, but until then 12 fret models ruled the roost. The demand for more range from the higher frets caused the change in build styles, but this change also affected the tonal character of the guitars.


With its quite large body, the D18VS produces a warm and bassy sound. The mahogany neck has a distinct V-shape, and with its wide string width is a guitar that offers more than enough room for the fingers, and is therefore naturally particularly comfortable to play for the fingerstyle guitarist. The guitar further features a tortoise binding and pickguard, and has a slotted headstock with rosewood headstock and Waverly tuners.


This D18VS was built in 2010, and is in excellent condition. The guitar shows play marks on the pickguard, top and back of the body. Also, some very light lines of craquelé run from the treble side of the neck, and there are two small dings along the binding on the treble side of the side of the body. Finally, the bridge saddle has been replaced with one made of elk bone.


The guitar comes with TFOA passport in the original TKL hardshell case.

Martins erste Dreadnoughts mit 14 Bünden erschienen 1934, aber bis dahin herrschten 12-Bund-Modelle vor. Die Nachfrage nach einem größeren Tonumfang durch die höheren Bünde führte zu einer Änderung der Bauweise, aber diese Änderung wirkte sich auch auf den Klangcharakter der Gitarren aus.


Mit ihrem recht großen Korpus produziert die D18VS einen warmen und bassigen Klang. Der Mahagoni-Hals hat eine ausgeprägte V-Form und bietet mit seiner großen Saitenbreite mehr als genug Platz für die Finger und ist daher für Fingerstyle-Gitarristen natürlich besonders komfortabel zu spielen. Die Gitarre ist außerdem mit einem Schildpatt-Binding und einem Schlagbrett ausgestattet und verfügt über eine geschlitzte Kopfplatte mit Palisander und Waverly-Mechaniken.


Diese D18VS wurde 2010 gebaut und befindet sich in einem hervorragenden Zustand. Die Gitarre weist Spielspuren auf dem Schlagbrett, der Decke und der Rückseite des Korpus auf. Auch einige sehr leichte Linien von Craquelé laufen von der Diskantseite des Halses, und es gibt zwei kleine Dellen entlang der Bindung auf der Diskantseite der Seite des Körpers. Schließlich wurde der Stegsattel durch einen aus Elchknochen ersetzt.


Die Gitarre wird mit TFOA-Pass im originalen TKL-Hartschalenkoffer geliefert.
