A vintage Gibson usually quickly grabs our attention, and this L4 from 1934 is no different! The guitar has the characteristic dry and warm sound that we all love, and with a little bit of love the guitar is ready for many decades of playing pleasure.

De L4 werd in 1912 door Gibson geïntroduceerd als een 16" brede archtop akoestische gitaar met ovaal klankgat. In 1928 kreeg het klankgat een ronde vorm met een 7-laags ringrozet, terwijl de body en hals een enkellaags binding kregen. De binding om de hals verdween daarop in 1929, maar keerde in 1934 weer terug. Tevens werd de headstock vanaf dat jaar voorzien van een diamond-inleg.
Deze Gibson L4 uit 1934 heeft de tand des tijds goed doorstaan, maar heeft wel wat liefde nodig om weer in optimale conditie te geraken. De gitaar is door een recent uitgevoerde refret momenteel prima bespeelbaar, maar heeft gezien zijn laag afgestelde brug in de nabije toekomst wel een neck reset nodig. Op de voorzijde van de headstock is nabij het stemmechaniek van de E-snaar een reparatie uitgevoerd, en op de achterzijde is te zien dat de stemmechanieken zijn vervangen. Helaas ontbreekt de slagplaat, maar de gitaar is nog wel voorzien van het originele staartstuk.
Waar deze vintage Gibson zich zonder twijfel onderscheidt is de op prachtige wijze ouder geworden finish met subtiele craquelé en speelsporen die verraden dat we hier met een zeer geliefd instrument te maken hebben. Het typische droge en warme geluid dat deze gitaren zo geliefd maakt is in volle glorie aanwezig, en dit maakt deze L4 tot een prachtig instrument om te bespelen én te beluisteren!

The L4 was introduced by Gibson in 1912 as a 16" wide archtop acoustic guitar with an oval soundhole. In 1928 the soundhole was given a round shape with a 7-ply ring rosette, while the body and neck were given single-ply binding. The binding around the neck it disappeared in 1929, but returned in 1934. From that year onwards the headstock was also provided with a diamond inlay.
This 1934 Gibson L4 has withstood the test of time, but does need some love to get it back into optimal condition. The guitar is currently very playable due to a recently performed refret, but given its low-set bridge, it will require a neck reset in the near future. A repair has been carried out on the front of the headstock near the tuning mechanism of the E string, and on the back you can see that the tuning mechanisms have been replaced. Unfortunately, the pickguard is missing, but the guitar still has the original tailpiece.
Where this vintage Gibson undoubtedly distinguishes itself is the beautifully aged finish with subtle crackle and playwear that reveal that we are dealing with a very popular instrument. The typical dry and warm sound that makes these guitars so popular is present in full glory, and this makes this L4 a beautiful instrument to play and listen to!

Die L4 wurde 1912 von Gibson als 16" breite Archtop-Akustikgitarre mit ovalem Schallloch vorgestellt. 1928 erhielt das Schallloch eine runde Form mit einer 7-lagigen Ringrosette, während Korpus und Hals einlagig gebunden wurden. Die Bindung um den Hals verschwand 1929, kam aber 1934 wieder. Ab diesem Jahr wurde auch die Kopfplatte mit einer Diamanteinlage versehen.
Diese Gibson L4 von 1934 hat den Test der Zeit bestanden, braucht aber etwas Liebe, um sie wieder in einen optimalen Zustand zu bringen. Die Gitarre ist derzeit aufgrund einer kürzlich durchgeführten Neubundierung sehr gut spielbar, aber aufgrund ihres tief angesetzten Stegs wird in naher Zukunft ein Hals-Reset erforderlich sein. An der Vorderseite der Kopfplatte in der Nähe des Stimmmechanismus der E-Saite wurde eine Reparatur durchgeführt, und auf der Rückseite ist zu sehen, dass die Stimmmechanismen ersetzt wurden. Leider fehlt das Schlagbrett, aber die Gitarre hat noch den originalen Saitenhalter.
Wodurch sich diese Vintage-Gibson zweifellos auszeichnet, ist Das wunderschön gealterte Finish mit subtilem Knistern und Spielspuren verrät, dass es sich hier um ein sehr beliebtes Instrument handelt. Der typische trockene und warme Klang, der diese Gitarren so beliebt macht, ist in voller Pracht vorhanden und macht diese L4 zu einem wunderschönen Instrument zum Spielen und Anhören!
