Because that is exactly what the new Amplifier and Cabinet Simulator from Walrus Audio, the ACS1 Mako Series, has to offer. At Walrus Audio they managed to fit three high-end amps in one pedal, with some very smart extras for an awesome sound and great ease of use.

The Amps

Amp Cab Sims have been around for a while now, but they were often larger in size and what these sims had on offer was so deep, that you could get lost: more than 100 types of amplifiers, with even more cabinets to combine them with. Perfect for someone who likes to have maximum influence on the different elements of sound and loves to tweak all of them until (s)he finds what (s)he's looking for.

But for others, that's a kind of draw back that just demands too much of a learning curve and they quickly go back to something with just plain knobs and switches. Fortunately, more and more Amp Cab Sims are entering the market that offer less options, but more ease of use and recognizable controls..

The ACS1 fits in that category, because you have the choice of three amplifiers: Fullerton, based on Fender Deluxe Reverb, London (Marshall Bluesbraker) and Dartford (Vox AC30). These three amps can be combined with six pre-programmed cabinets (Impulse Responses, IR) from Walrus Audio. This lay out ensures that it all fits in one easy-to-operate pedal. And it sounds great, thanks to a few clever extras!

The extras

This pedal not only offers the possibility to choose from three amplifiers: you can also combine them in a beautiful stereo image. You just put the Fullerton in clean on one side and the London or the Dartford with a slight edge on the other. Or in any other combo you like! This works great, because the sound suddenly gets a lot more room and it feels like you're standing in a studio with a great Fender and a Marshall or a Vox. Once you have created a great sound, that you want to push it a bit further for, lets say, a solo, you can easily pre-program a Boost, per amplifier.

After playing with the ACS1 for a while, you might get the taste of an Amp Cab Sim and start looking for more options. There is a USB connection to charge 128 extra IR's and of course you can control it via MIDI. All this makes this a very useful pedal for anyone who is tired of dragging multiple amplifiers. Due to the stereo option it is great for the stage and thanks to 24-bits suitable for the studio. And at home? Yes: you can plug a headphone straight into it and play at night without bothering anyone.
