With this Master Built Manuel Ramirez, Jellinghaus pays tribute to one of the most famous guitars in history: the instrument that Manuel Ramirez presented to the young Andrés Segovia in 1912. Its spruce and granadillo construction produces a tone worthy of this legendary heritage.

The name Manuel Ramirez is inextricably linked to the rise of the classical guitar as a solo instrument. In his Madrid workshop, where later masters such as Santos Hernández and Domingo Esteso also learned their craft, the guitar that Ramirez gave to the then-unknown Andrés Segovia was built in 1912.

That instrument travelled the world with Segovia and laid the foundation for his illustrious career. Wolfgang Jellinghaus, himself trained by his father and active for decades in the construction of historically inspired guitars, pays tribute to builders such as Ramirez with his Master Built series: instruments built entirely by hand by a single master luthier, using carefully selected and well-seasoned tonewoods.

For the tonal character, Jellinghaus chose a solid spruce top combined with a body made from solid granadillo. The spruce provides a clear and direct response in the upper registers, while granadillo, a tonewood related to rosewood, delivers a rich harmonic structure and deep, full bass. Fan bracing and a traditional French Polish finish on the top allow the wood to vibrate freely, benefiting both resonance and projection.

The mahogany neck with flat ebony fingerboard provides the even action required for classical technique. Together with the Der Jung tuning machines in a traditional three-on-a-plate configuration and the rosewood bridge, this guitar looks and plays every bit as authentic as its famous namesake.
